VDX Marketing’s local Facebook ad is constructed around one very large word: FREE. The company says Emerald Coast businesses can receive a professional website valued at roughly $3,000 at no charge when they sign a 12-month marketing plan. VDX is a real Destin-area marketing company offering WordPress web design, SEO, Google Ads, Meta Ads, CRM, and automation. The offer may be perfectly legitimate. The important thing is recognizing that the website is being subsidized by a year-long service relationship rather than materializing without economic cost.

This Is a Bundling Strategy

Marketing agencies often waive or discount setup costs when a client commits to recurring services. The agency earns its revenue over the contract term, while the customer avoids a large upfront web-design bill. That can be a good arrangement when the business already intended to purchase ongoing marketing. It becomes a poor deal when somebody signs twelve months of services solely because the word “free” made the website sound like a gift.

Ask What the 12-Month Plan Costs

The most important number is not the claimed retail value of the website. It is the total contractual obligation: monthly management fee, advertising budget, setup charges, software fees, minimum spend, early termination terms, and anything that renews automatically. Multiply the recurring cost by twelve and compare that total with buying a website separately plus the marketing services you actually need.

Find Out Who Owns the Website

A business should know whether it owns the domain, WordPress installation, design, content, images, analytics accounts, advertising accounts, and customer data if the relationship ends. Some agency bundles make the website transferable; others effectively lease parts of the system. Neither model is automatically wrong, but ownership should be written down before the contract is signed.

Ongoing Marketing Can Be Worth More Than the Site

A beautiful website nobody visits does not help much. VDX’s service mix includes local SEO, paid advertising, CRM, and conversion-focused design, so a business that needs sustained marketing may get more value from the ongoing work than the initial build. The question is whether the agency’s strategy, reporting, and results justify the recurring cost.

Local Businesses Should Compare Proposals

Get the deliverables in writing and compare them with at least one alternative. Ask how many pages are included, who writes the content, whether photography is included, how revisions work, what hosting costs after the contract, and which marketing channels are actually managed. A detailed proposal makes the word “free” much less important because you can evaluate the entire package.

Bottom Line

VDX is not hiding the core condition: the free website is tied to a 12-month marketing plan. That can be a reasonable customer-acquisition offer from a local agency. The squirrely part would be evaluating it as a $3,000 windfall instead of a bundled contract. Price the whole year, confirm ownership, understand cancellation terms, and then decide whether the package earns its keep.
