There are advertisements that make us immediately reach for the shovel because something smells wrong. Then there are advertisements that are much more interesting because the basic claim appears to be true \u2014 but one tiny asterisk is carrying enough weight to qualify for workers compensation. Floot falls into the second category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Facebook ad that caught my attention makes a wonderfully simple pitch: \u201cRuns on the AI subscription you already pay for.\u201d It compares a $20 ChatGPT<\/a> subscription with \u201cFloot MCP: $0*,\u201d then says you can build a full-stack app with your existing AI subscription while Floot \u201chandles the rest.\u201d Down at the bottom, in considerably less enthusiastic type, is the part that makes this a Something Squirrely episode instead of a simple product recommendation: Floot does not charge for AI credit usage, but hosting pricing may apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, is the ad lying? Not really. That is what makes this one interesting. Floot genuinely does let an outside AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client drive the build process. Floot provides the project environment, database, authentication, storage, preview, deployment infrastructure, and hosting while the assistant you already use does the reasoning. According to Floot\u2019s own documentation<\/a>, the model thinking is supplied by your existing AI service rather than billed as Floot AI usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The $0 Part Is Real \u2014 It Just Isn\u2019t the Whole Meter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Floot does not meter ordinary connector-based building in AI credits. Instead, it uses something called build actions<\/strong>. A build action is essentially one completed tool call your AI assistant makes against a Floot project. Reading a file counts. Writing code counts. Running a type-check counts. Running SQL counts. Publishing counts. In other words, Floot may not be counting tokens, but it is absolutely counting how often your AI asks Floot to do something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the current free plan, Floot gives you 100 build actions per UTC day<\/strong> and also imposes a 400-action rolling seven-day limit<\/strong>. That weekly pool is not a neat Monday-through-Sunday reset. It slides forward every day, so if you burn through the allowance during a heavy building session, you wait for older usage to age out of the window. Paid plans raise the daily limit and remove the weekly ceiling. Floot documents the current limits on its Build Actions page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That makes the \u201cFloot MCP: $0\u201d line technically defensible. You can connect your AI assistant and build without Floot charging you additional model-token fees. But \u201cfree\u201d does not mean unlimited, and the thing being rationed is not the thing most people expect when they see the word credits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then There Is the Other Meter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Because apparently one meter would have been too easy, Floot also has credits<\/strong>. Build actions and credits are separate systems and do not convert into one another. Credits are used when Floot itself runs AI \u2014 most notably when you generate images through Floot or when a published application uses Floot\u2019s built-in AI package for things such as chat, summarization, embeddings, or image generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current free plan includes a one-time allotment of 3,000 credits at sign-up according to Floot\u2019s billing documentation<\/a>. Pro currently includes 5,000 credits per month and Power includes 15,000. If your finished application uses your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key instead of Floot\u2019s built-in AI service, that usage moves to your provider bill instead. Congratulations: we have successfully moved the meter to another room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Now the Asterisk Would Like to Discuss Hosting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is where the little star in the advertisement finally earns its paycheck. A free Floot account currently receives $3 in hosting credit once at <\/strong>sign-up. It is not a recurring $3 monthly allowance. When that hosting credit is gone, keeping an application online can require paid hosting usage. Floot\u2019s Pro plan is currently $25 per month and includes $10 per month in hosting allowance; Power is $100 per month and includes $25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That does not automatically make the hosting expensive. A small application may cost very little to run. The problem is simply that \u201c$0\u201d naturally makes people think the whole platform is free, while the actual arrangement is closer to \u201cthe connector does not charge you for model usage, within build-action limits, and the application still has infrastructure costs once the free hosting allowance is exhausted.\u201d That sentence would make a terrible Facebook graphic, which is presumably why they went with the asterisk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Free Plan Also Has Some Important Fences Around It<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The free account is currently limited to five projects and 100 MB of Floot storage. It can publish applications, but it does not<\/strong> include custom domains, native mobile apps, or the normal \u201cGet Code\u201d export feature. Custom domains and code export begin on the paid Pro plan; native mobile app support is listed under Power. Floot does state that you own your application\u2019s code and data, but its self-hosting documentation<\/a> says that selecting \u201cGet Code\u201d while signed into a free account opens the upgrade dialog rather than giving you the ZIP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That distinction matters more than it may sound. If you are experimenting, five projects and a Floot subdomain may be perfectly adequate. If you are building something for a client or a business, however, the ability to attach your own domain and take a complete copy of the project with you can become much more important than the cost of the AI conversation that built it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Those \u201cExisting AI Subscription Credits\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is another bit of wording worth separating carefully. Floot describes the connector as using the AI subscription you already have, and its documentation says the assistant supplies the model and reasoning. That is different from taking a ChatGPT subscription payment and magically turning it into OpenAI API dollars. OpenAI itself states that ChatGPT and the API platform use separate billing systems<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So if you connect Floot through ChatGPT, the attraction is that ChatGPT can be the assistant operating the Floot tools. You are not receiving a hidden bucket of API credit simply because you pay for ChatGPT. If the application you eventually build starts calling the OpenAI API with your own API key, that API usage is a separate bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So Is Something Actually Squirrely?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A little, but not in the \u201crun away screaming\u201d sense. Floot appears to be a real platform making a real offer, and its documentation is unusually clear once you leave the advertisement and start reading. The central promise \u2014 use the AI assistant you already pay for to drive a full-stack app builder without paying Floot another pile of model-token charges \u2014 is substantially accurate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The squirrel is hiding in the comparison. \u201cChatGPT: $20 + Floot MCP: $0\u201d encourages the eye to compare subscription prices while leaving build-action limits, hosting usage, AI credits inside published apps, project caps, custom domains, and code export outside the big-font equation. None of those things makes Floot bad. They simply determine whether $0 remains $0 after the novelty wears off and you try to turn the experiment into something useful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Valhalla Computers Test Comes Next<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is one of those products that deserves more than a pricing-page autopsy. The next logical step is to create a free account, connect it to an AI assistant, and build something useful enough to stress the limits. Then we can see how quickly 100 daily build actions disappear, what the one-time $3 hosting credit actually supports, how the publishing workflow behaves, and precisely where the free tier starts nudging us toward the credit card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until then, the verdict is not \u201cFloot is a scam.\u201d Far from it. The more accurate conclusion is that the advertisement is telling the truth in the way advertising often tells the truth: very loudly about the attractive part, and at eight-point font about the part that explains what the attractive part actually means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
